General (United States)|General '''George Smith Patton Jr.''' (November 11, 1885 – December 21, 1945) was a senior Officer (armed forces)|officer of the United States Army who commanded the Seventh United States Army|U.S. Seventh Army in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations|Mediterranean and European theatre of World War II|European theaters of World War II, but is best known for his leadership of the United States Army Central|U.S. Third Army in Western Front (World War II)|France and Germany following the Allies of World War II|Allied invasion of Normandy in June 1944.
